Meet the Team!

Message from the Founder.

Since becoming a registered nurse I have noticed that my friends and family often ask me personal medical questions. Most frequently women ask me about cervical cancer, specifically about irregular pap tests and the meaning of cervical cell dysplasia. The women who I speak with are embarrassed to talk about their test results and often refuse to converse with their friends about HPV for fear of being judged. I started to hope for a day when women felt comfortable talking with each other about HPV and not feeling stigmatized by their diagnosis. The surplus of questions being asked also highlighted a serious lack of accessibility of information about HPV and cervical cancer.

Hence, Julyna was created to facilitate a non-judgmental forum for women to talk openly about their experiences with HPV and to learn about the virus from each other. Julyna is a light-hearted fundraising initiative aimed at fighting a serious illness-cervical cancer. Women spend the month of July exercising creativity and personal wellness by choosing a style for their pubic region and sticking to it—as a fundraising technique. Not only do we hope that Julyna raises funds for cervical cancer, but also that the added attention drawn below the belt will inspire women to take care of this area in other ways, i.e. through scheduled Pap tests or by discussing the HPV vaccine with their family doctors, friends and loved ones.

Julyna is made up of some amazing, committed Canadians who volunteer their time and expertise because they believe in Julyna’s mission: To increase awareness and funds for cervical cancer and to promote healthy lifestyle choices in an effort to prevent the spread of HPV.

Julyna strives to fight back against cervical cancer by:

  1. Providing a website with clear and concise cervical cancer information
  2. Empowering women with the information and tools to raise awareness and funds for cervical cancer prevention
  3. Throwing events to raise further funds for cervical cancer research
  4. Using various social media campaigns to generate awareness and funds

Since its humble beginning in 2011 Julyna has raised over $100,000 for cervical cancer research and received over 1 million dollars in donations that went toward production services to drive awareness about the disease. Our efforts were not in vein and our message reached many individuals, for example, over 70,000 people have viewed our website (julyna.com), with traffic from 116 countries. Our Facebook page had over 4,300 unique posts and interactions, indicating the need and desire for HPV and cervical cancer discussions.

We are so encouraged by the awareness and money raised over the last two years. So, please donate to the cause by participating or sponsoring someone who is styling this Julyna

Thanks for your support!
